Graphic Design Feature - Powerful Vector Graphic Operations
Vector Graphic Operations give users a way to quickly create complex shapes by combining basic shapes in a variety of ways. Many complex vector graphics can be created by composing them from basic shapes, and then combining them through one or more of the Object Operations. Object Operations are particularly well-suited for symbol, logo, and clipart design.
Trim:
Trim gives users the ability to use one or more shapes as a trimmer to trim another shape. See below for an example of the Trim Operation:
Step 1: Create the two shapes |
Step 2: Place the trimmer shape over the shape to be trimmed |
Step 3: Use the Trim Command to trim the bottom shape |
Step 4: Use the resulting shape to create artwork. |

Weld:
Weld allows users to combine the collective area of a group of shapes into one consolidated shape. See below for a demonstration of the Weld Operation:
Step 1: Create the shapes you'd like to weld |
Step 2: Arrange the shapes appropriately |
Step 3: Use the Weld command to weld the shapes together |
Step 4: Perform a few simple node edits |
Step 5: Complete the node editing |
Step 6: Add a gradient fill and outline to the shape |
Intersect:
Intersect creates a new shape out of the overlapping areas of one or more shapes. See below for an example involving the Intersect Operation:
Step 1: Create 2 or more shapes you'd like to intersect |
Step 2: Make a copy of the two shapes |
Step 3: Use the Intersect command to intersect the copies of the shapes |
Step 4: Color in the shapes |
Step 5: Rearrange the shapes to form a Venn Diagram |
Step 6: Convert the middle piece into a text frame and enter some text |

Object Operations are very powerful, and play an essential role in any Graphic Design program. They can be used to quickly and easily create complex shapes from basic ones.
